CARE & SERVICE
Watches are machines that can outlive their owner.
For that to be possible, there must be someone who understands them.
Service is therefore a natural part of the work of Atelier LS.
Each mechanical movement is a system of balance, created decades or even centuries ago.
The task of a watchmaker is not only repair.
It is the understanding of the construction, the preservation of original solutions, and the return of the mechanism to a state in which it can function again for many years.
Atelier LS services both historical and modern watches with respect for their original construction and materials.
What the atelier services
-
Pocket watches
Historical wristwatches
Complicated mechanical movements
LS watches of its own production
Examples of work over the years:
Pocket watch with calendar
A gold pocket watch with a calendar indication of the day of the week and the day of the month on the case back.
The movement arrived at the atelier in a condition requiring a complete service.
The mechanism was fully disassembled, individual components were cleaned, and then reassembled.
During the repair, pivots and screws were hand-polished to restore proper friction and the smooth operation of the gear train.
The gold case underwent correction of deformations followed by hand polishing.
After complete adjustment of the calendar mechanism and escapement, the watch returned to stable operation.
Pocket watch with chronometer escapement
A pocket watch equipped with a chronometer escapement and a cylindrical balance spring.
It arrived at the atelier with a significantly damaged hunter case.
During disassembly, a cracked bearing of the intermediate wheel was discovered, causing instability in the movement.
The damaged bearing was replaced with a new one, and the entire gear train was reassembled and regulated.
At the same time, the hunter case was repaired and realigned.
After completion, the movement was reassembled, lubricated, and adjusted to continue reliable operation.
Girard-Perregaux ref. 4980
A chronograph watch that arrived at the atelier with broken chronograph pushers.
The repair required the design and manufacture of new pushers, including fastening screws corresponding to the original case construction.
The new components were produced directly in the atelier and then fitted into the case. Sharp crown edges were also refined by beveling.
After completion, the chronograph was reassembled and the pushers adjusted to ensure the mechanism operated with its original precision.
Repeater pocket watch
Pocket watches equipped with repeaters belong among the most remarkable historical mechanisms encountered in the atelier. Some of them are complemented by so-called automatons — moving figurines on the dial.
In this case, two figures stand on either side of the dial. When the repeater is activated, they move small hammers and symbolically "strike" a bell. The actual sound, however, is produced inside the watch by hammers striking a gong — the figures serve only a visual function.
When servicing such watches, it is necessary to pay attention not only to the striking mechanism, but also to the system that transfers motion to the dial-side figures.
The repair photographs show the production of a new screw regulating the striking force, the condition of damaged polished components, and their subsequent refinement during service.
Care for LS watches
Service at LS is not a repair. It is a continuation of the work.
LS watches are constructed with the understanding that they will exist long after their creation.
Each piece is designed to be disassembled, adjusted, and returned to full function in the future.
Service is therefore a natural part of the life of the watch.
Every LS watch has its record in the Almanac of production.
This makes it possible to trace its original configuration, materials, and construction at any time.
Service is always carried out within Atelier LS under the supervision of Luděk Seryn.
Mechanical watches are not a consumable object.
They are machines capable of operating for generations.
Service of historical watches is accepted only in limited numbers.
