Portrait of the Watchmaker

Mechanics is the language through which I think about time.
Luděk Seryn is a Czech watchmaker and the founder of Atelier LS.
His work focuses on the construction of mechanical watches, where technical solutions meet a personal approach to each piece.
Most watches are created in small series or as individual projects for a specific owner.
Each model is the result of long-term development, engineering, and handcraft within the atelier.
At the center of the work stands mechanics.
Watches are not seen as a product,
but as an instrument that can endure for generations.
Construction, finishing, and final assembly all take place within Atelier LS.
Each piece from the Mechanica line is personally completed by Luděk Seryn.
This approach has been shaped gradually over many years of work.

Further models using the LS2012 calibre are developed — Skeleton Round, Tonneau, and Skeleton Lady.
2016
Development begins on the Karel Rotation model, focused on a rotating movement construction.
2019
Presentation of the Karel Rotation model on the global watchmaking stage.
2020
Creation of the Jitka Rotation model.
2022
Presentation of the RO-18 model.
2023–2025
Development and completion of the ADR project.
The continuous development of constructions and in-house calibres has brought the atelier's work onto the international watchmaking stage.
The work of Luděk Seryn has also been presented on the international watchmaking stage.
Following the introduction of the Karel Rotation model at Baselworld, he was invited among the candidates of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) — an association of independent watchmakers bringing together some of the most significant creators in contemporary horology.
In 2021, he became a full member.
Since 2019, Luděk Seryn has also been a member of the jury of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), an international competition regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the world of watchmaking.
Participation in the jury offers the opportunity to contribute to the evaluation of contemporary watchmaking and to be part of the dialogue that shapes modern mechanical horology.
Yet most of the work still takes shape in the quiet of the atelier.
The work of Atelier LS is grounded in the belief that form is the result of decision.
Each project begins with an idea that gradually transforms into a mechanical construction.
Time is perceived here not only as a measure,
but as a space for focused work.
Some watches measure time.
Others are made from it.
